The future of search engines

Researchers at The University of Texas at Austin and Northeastern University presented two papers at the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics that describe efforts to combine artificial intelligence with crowdsourced annotators and information encoded in domain-specific resources. The work has the potential to improve general search engines, as well as ones like those for medical knowledge or non-English texts. Full Story

In fiscal year (FY) 2017, its budget is $7.5 billion. NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and other institutions. Each year, NSF receives more than 48,000 competitive proposals for funding and makes about 12,000 new funding awards.
